What Colour are Goldfish When They are Born?

what colour are goldfish when they hatch

This is so true...the largest goldfish in the top photo ("Frankie") used to be a beautiful grey, almost the colour of a weimaraner dog. He's been transitioning to gold and white, we think to blend in with the shebunkins he tanks with.

  1. i've always been told that goldies are nearly always born as beeing grey/black and that they change their color afterwards.
I have fishes that have been black for over a year and that are now colloring to orange

and if you would see him now he's allready 3/4 orange
So i would say you never know what color your fish will become.

I had one who was orange and had a black top he turned completly orange.
I also bought a panda goldie that turned out to become orange white aswell

  2. Hi Sopje, Thank you so much for posting these! Wow, vissen your first pic has changed, but still so very gorgeous.

The black top orange is pretty too, though I'm sure he's still handsome all orange. Amazing how they change, isn't it?

Our Frankie (brownish fish in the main pic) has turned orange/white. I was thinking he turned this way to assimilate with his tankmates?
